I was born and raised at First Reformed Church. I even worked at FRC once before as the Youth Pastor for one year back in 1999, when I met my soon to be wife Samantha. We married and moved to Spartanburg, SC to work with Young Life. Then we moved to Catawba County, NC with Young LIfe before taking a job at First Baptist Church in Maryville, TN as their youth pastor. We moved back here in November of 2011 and reunited with David Franks (the pastor I grew up with) and Jeff Chewning (one of my former youth group kids at FRC). Samantha and I have been married for 17 years. We have two boys, Tyson who is 14 years old and Miles who will be 12 this summer.

My family came to First Reformed Church in 1997 when I was in middle school. I went off to college, served another congregation in music and young adult ministries, went off to seminary and then the Lord lead me back to FRC! I have been on staff since 2011 and thankful to be a part of all the great things God is doing around here! I am a 2008 graduate of Pfeiffer University. I majored in Christian Education and also studied music for a majority of my time in college. If Campus Crusade for Christ was a minor then I would have definitely minored in this ministry. I really enjoy leading worship, playing keys, teaching, and hanging out with people. I am currently a seminary student pursuing my Master of Divinity degree through Liberty University School of Divinity. I enjoy a wide variety of music from contemporary praise and worship to classic rock and much in between. In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors, hiking, and eating at different restaurants.

I've been singing and playing most of my life. It all started because of the encouragement of my dad, Leonard Helms, and his love for music and his love for God. Music is where I find myself most at home, especially singing in God's house. Whether its singing the newest song heard on K-Love or remembering the music of the Chuckwagon Gang at Lake Norman music Hall, I have always loved music. I am blessed to be the Music Ministry Associate (First Service leader) and help with leading the choir second service. I feel that music touches people in a way that spoken words can't. One byproduct of music is being able to memorize scripture which I feel is very important for everyone. I am blessed to have had a dad and a heavenly father who make music very important to me. My earnest prayer is that God will use me as he sees fit until He returns or I meet him there!

I was born and raised in Rowan County, attended God’s Bible School & College in Cincinnati, OH majoring in Psychology. I have made my home in Salisbury for the past 18 years and been in Church ministry most of my life and find it very fulfilling. I have been with First Reformed since 2000 and I love my “adopted Church family” and friends. I enjoy music, nature, photography, reading and spending time with friends. One of my favorite things is entertaining folks in my home. I believe that the best goal in life is to find and do the will of God.
